According to their storm survey, a tornado descended upon South Franklin Township in Washington County on Saturday. This event was classified as an EF-1 tornado, with estimated wind speeds hovering around 105 miles per hour.
Remarkably, this marks the 16th documented tornado to impact Washington County since 1950. The most recent instance of a tornado in the area transpired on August 1, 2022, when an EF-2 tornado traversed into Washington County from the northern West Virginia panhandle, as reported by the National Weather Service.
